How to Configure the Netcetera CDN Service

There are several ways to configure and manage your Netcetera CDN
service.  Advanced users can setup all sorts of custom configurations,
choose which folders to fetch, utilize custom DNS zones (ie
CDN.domain.com)

This guide is for the average user who simply wishes to utilize the
CDN as easily as possible and make the process as seamless as possible
in order to serve static/streaming content from their website across our
CDN network

1) sign up for a Netcetera CDN account here

2) manage the service in your Netcetera Account

3) Add a new CDN resource

4) Enter in the following

(To set up ALL traffic to www.yourdomain.com to utilize Netcetera CDN)

CDN Hostname = www.yourdomain.com (please use www)

Origin = IP Address of your website (shared or dedicated)

Edge Groups – Select the Continets you wish to serve content from

5) once the resource is created, create the custom cname record for
your www.domain.com record as per below (ensure you remove any existing
www.domain.com DNS record)

6) add a redirect or .htaccess file to your site so that all traffic
to your domain is forced over www.domain.com (ie any requests for http://domain.com will be redirected to http://www.domain.com

7) that’s it, you’re all set – you can log into your Netcetera Account, Netcetera CDN Service, check your usage hourly as it updates.

After giving some time for everything to resolve, you can test if the CDN is enabled with a simple ping test ping domain.com – note the IP address (should be your websites IP address). Ping www.domain.com – note the IP address (will be the IP address of the CDN POP closest to the location you are pinging from)

New UK e-Gaming legislation on its way

Netcetera offers the e-Gaming industry the most advanced and cost-effective facilities for housing IT infrastructure anywhere offshore, so an issue which we are currently keeping an eye on is the new Bill going through government which is set to change how remote gambling is licensed and regulated.

The Gambling Commission estimates that about 85% of remote gambling operators are unregulated. This Bill, which is an amendment to the 2005 Gambling Act, will essentially require that all providers offering online gambling to UK residents will need to get a licence from the UK Gambling commission and in turn become regulated.

The Bill will aim to better regulate remote gambling. Under the new regime, overseas-based operators will be subject to the provisions of the Gambling Act 2005, its regulations and the Gambling Commission’s social responsibility. This will mean, among other things, that all licensed operators will be required to contribute to research, education and treatment in relation to British problem gambling, and to comply with licence conditions.

The Bill which was proposed by Maria Miller MP and supported by a raft of MPs across the coalition, including both the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister is likely to pass through uncontested by the opposition.

The Isle of Man has been included on what is referred to as a “White List” of countries, as they have been deemed to have strong regulatory systems comparable to that of the UK.  The white listed countries will be automatically given licences, so the transition will be smooth and effortless. We hope this new legislation will encourage overseas e-Gaming companies to follow in the footsteps of PokerStars and relocate to the Isle of Man.
